The DS3231 is a low cost, high precision I2C real-time clock (RTC) with integrated temperature compensation (TCXO) and crystal. The device contains the battery input and can remain accurate when the main power is turned off. The integrated crystal improves the long-term accuracy of the device and reduces the number of components in the production line. The DS3231 is available in commercial and industrial temperature ranges in a 16-pin 300mil SO package.

RTC saves seconds, minutes, hours, weeks, dates, months and years. Less than 31 days of the month will automatically adjust the date of the month, including the leap year correction. The working format of the clock can be 24 hours or 12-hour format with / AM / PM indication. Provides two settable calendar alarms and a settable square wave output. The address and data are transmitted via I2C bi-directional bus serial.
Precise, temperature-compensated voltage reference and comparator circuits are used to monitor the VCC status, detect power failures, provide reset outputs, and automatically switch to backup power if necessary. In addition, the / RST watch pin can be used as a manual input to generate μP reset.

In addition to high timing accuracy, DS3231 also has some other features, these features extend the system host additional features and selection range. The device integrates a very accurate digital temperature sensor that can be accessed via the I2C * interface (as in time). The accuracy of this temperature sensor is ± 3 ° C. The on-chip control circuitry enables automatic power detection and manages power switching between the main and backup power supplies (ie, low voltage batteries). If the mains power is turned off, the device can continue to provide accurate timing and temperature, performance is not affected. The on-chip reset function can be used to restart the system microprocessor when the main power supply is re-energized or the voltage value is returned to the allowable range.
